Review: The Moon that Embraces the Sun

I've been watching several shows lately and I finished watching all episodes of the Korean drama, The Moon that Embraces the Sun about a month ago. It only took me 2 days to finish the twenty-episode drama. I was so absorbed watching it that I always tend to skip my meals. The story just kept getting better and better for every episode and I couldn't stop myself from watching. At first there wasn't much of an excitement but then after a few episodes, one can really get hooked with the drama. It’s a love story set in historical times under Korean monarchy. To make things more interesting, the drama includes fantasy with shamans and magic performance. I wouldn't say the plot is unique because I've encountered many similar dramas but compared to those other dramas, so far this one is the best for me.

The child version of the male and female characters King Lee Hwon and Yeon Woo did a good job portraying the character. As for their older version, I was quite disappointed with the female main character played by Han Ga In. To be honest, I find her acting rather plain. Her expressions are most of the time the same. I don’t mean to be harsh but I don’t see anything special with her acting abilities. It would have been better if they chose a different actress. She's pretty though. :) As for Kim Soo Hyun who took the role of King Lee Hwon, I must say he is one of the best Korean actors I've seen. I can really feel the “king spirit” from him. His acting is superb! He totally deserves an award for this... and he did receive an award. :)

The rest of the cast also did a good job. Sadly, I only wasn't satisfied with the main female character. Still, the male lead was able to make up for it. There are parts of the story when the king was trying to please the girl and it was just so cute! Girls will surely dream about meeting a guy like that.

For those who are into historical dramas with a mix of fantasy and romance, this drama is highly recommended.
